PhD Researcher | Laboratorio Europeo di Spettroscopie Non Lineari (LENS)
Joel is a PhD researcher within the MAWI doctoral network, based at LENS (European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy) at the University of Florence. His academic background is in Physics, with research experience in light-matter interaction.

Joel’s research at LENS focuses on developing an advanced Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) system for cooling and trapping Rubidium-87 atoms using atom chips. The project aims to integrate microelectronic and photonic structures into atom chips to improve atomic state control and measurement. A key feature is the ability to easily replace the atom chip, allowing rapid testing of new designs—an important step toward CMOS-compatible technologies for future quantum sensing and computing.
