Workshop “Discover your transferable skills” by Hertz

As a PhD student or postdoc entering the job market, you need to be aware of your own skills and be able to communicate them. That’s not always easy. Most researchers are very good at presenting their research and practical skills, but are less aware of their social, communication and leadership skills. However, you have experience in completing your thesis, and perhaps also in applying for grants, organising conferences and managing other staff. You clearly possess ‘transferable skills’; skills that you can use in any situation and that make you valuable to the labour
market.
In this workshop, participants discover which transferable skills they possess, and which ones they still wish to develop. Participants will also learn about the STARR method, a method of questioning often used in job interviews. Participants will come up with examples they can use to demonstrate their transferable skills, and practise using the STARR method to highlight those skills.
