FOTEC is the research and technology development subsidiary of the University of Applied Sciences in
Wiener Neustadt, founded in 1998. The interdisciplinary team carries out research and development (R&D)
projects for various customers including industry as well agencies. It was founded to bridge the gap
between academic research and commercial development (To cross the “valley of death”). As of recently,
this has culminated in the highly successful high-tech spin offs, such as the aerospace company Enpulsion
FOTEC consists of 3 departments, the Aerospace Engineering department (AE), the Engineering
Technologies department (TEC) and the Innovative Software Systems department (BISS).
The objective of the PhD thesis at FOTEC is to implement CMOS compatible (and therefore mass producible) atomtronics circuitry on chip. The atomtronics components will include existing atom chip functionality (such as trapping structures, RF and MW waveguides and mirror surfaces as well as novel on-chip resources, such as RF and MW sources, optical detection, Hall probes, current regulation, current switching and basic logic and memory elements. This elements will be used to implement integrated & automated atom trap optimization as well as the implementation of hybrid chips having the potential ability to combine classical and quantum sensing concepts on one device.
